Havoc

Havoc was a short lived Melbourne label. It was begun in 1970 and was owned by Rod De Courcy and Frank Smith. Unfortunately the label came to an end with the untimely death of Frank Smith in early 1974.

The label released 20 singles, including the hit Most People I Know (Think I’m Crazy) by Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. Most releases were by Australian artists and they were produced by Aztec drummer Gil Matthews. Interestingly, all Havoc records seem to have been pressed in New Zealand, probably to ensure better quality at a reduced price, and were distributed by Southern Records and Astor.

Gil Matthews currently runs Aztec music and has released all the singles on a double CD.

Havoc released only one compilation album – despite the vol. 1 moniker implying that there would be subsequent releases. Given the high standards Havoc maintained, the cover design leaves something to be desired, as does the track listing sticker on the back.

This is a very hard to find compilation in good condition, and is highly sort after by collectors.
